SOCACIZE™™-An Exhilarating Caribbean Work-out!

Get ready to sweat with Ayanna Lee-Rivears in this high-energy, innovative class that incorporates Afro-Caribbean dance moves to get your heart rate high. Socacize will have you panting after this intense hour as it transports you from the chill of the north to the sunny south.

SOCACIZE™ for kids ***NEW*** 8-12 yrs

Sports can help a child gain self-esteem, coordination, general fitness and help them learn how to work with other kids and adults. But some kids aren't natural athletes and they may tell you - directly or indirectly - that they just don't like sports. What then? Socacize for Kids!

Socacize for Kids is one of the most innovative and exciting dance/fitness program that allows kids to embrace and participate in recreation other than sports.

This fun workout is controlled with the beat of the music - slowing down or speeding up to match the fitness level of the class. Socacize for kids includes games and yoga exercises to increase heart rates, strengthen muscles and increase flexibility. Like an adult fitness class, children should use their aerobic energy system while staying within their training heart rate zones. Kids will receive tips on healthy food and also the functions of their bones and muscles.

Socacize for Kids will encourage children to let loosen up to the energizing melodies and rhythms of Calypso, Soca, Zouk, reggae and on occasion drum music. We add fun equipment/themes to make each session exciting!

UDeCOTT NCEC Project - The National Carnival and Entertainment Centre, Queen’s Park Savannah, POS

Plans for the National Carnival and Entertainment Centre to be erected at the Queen's Park Savannah in Port of Spain, Trinidad began in July 2006. A completion date has yet to be announced. Below is a project description of the NCEC from the UDeCOTT website.

carnivalcentreThe National Carnival and Entertainment Centre (NCEC), is a state-of-the-art, locally designed cultural centre, which will be the setting for the vast array of celebrations that are the highlights of our diverse national cultural calendar.

As the nation's cultural showpiece, the NCEC will make its home against the majestic backdrop of the Northern Range and be located a mere stone's throw from the planned Port of Spain National Academy for the Performing Arts.

The NCEC will seamlessly melt into the Queen's Park Savannah, since it will preserve the current recreational use of the area whilst simultaneously catering to the needs of the modern and future users of the facility. In order to ensure that the requirements of stakeholders are accommodated in the design, discussions were held with various groups involved in the performing arts and other cultural activities, resulting in an environmentally and culturally sensitive design approach.

  • Seating for 15,000 - 18,000;

  • Artistes' suites and workshops;

  • Dressing rooms for performers;

  • VIP and media accommodation;

  • Spacious concession area for food and beverage outlets with modern
    conveniences;

  • Art and exhibition space;

  • Modern and enhanced restroom facilities (including accommodations for the

Scotiabank becomes title sponsor of Toronto CARIBANA festival

Scotiabank CARIBANA

Toronto, ON, Canada, Friday March 7th, 2008 - Scotia Bank and the Festival management Committee (FMC) of CARIBANA announced earlier today, a two year partnership that will see Scotia Bank become the title sponsor of North America's largest Caribbean festival (CARIBANA). The announcement was made at CARIBANA's first press conference for 2008 at the Scotia Plaza with Mayor David Miller and various members of the press present.

According to Mr Joe Halstead (Chairman of the FMC), the intitial agreement is for a two year term and Scotia Bank has also requested the 'right of refusal' for another three years if all goes well. "We are proud to have one of Canada's premier banks as our title sponsor, which is not only important as far as the funding of the festival for 2008, but it also sends a message to the rest of corporate Canada that it is okay to come on board and join in to support CARIBANA".

Scotiabank is involved in over 50 countries and contributes to $43 million in sponsorships and donations annually. "The partnership is a natural fit for Scotiabank", says Chris Hodson (Scotiabank). "We've been involved in the Caribbean for many years and in fact our very first branch outside of Toronto was opened in Kingston, Jamaica in 1889. It represents who we are as an international organization and all of our people that work within Scotiabank around the world. Our main goal is to make CARIBANA the best cultural event it can be. Scotiabank wants to support the FMC with what it wants to do and make this a wonderful event for Torontonians and visitors to the city to show what a great city we're in".

Scotiabank CARIBANA kicks off with 'Carnivalissma' on June 6th-10th and will culminate with the parade and festival concert August 2nd and 3rd, 2008. For more information visit http://www.caribanafestival.com/ or http://www.scotiabank.com/.
