New Campaign Urges MySpace.com to Create a Soca Music Category

New Campaign Urges MySpace.com to Create a Soca Music Category

Toronto, Canada - A new advocacy campaign was launched yesterday to officially list soca as a musical genre on the internet entertainment portal, Myspace.com. The initiative entitled Bring Soca to MySpace is lobbying to make it easy for fans to browse soca music online and interact with their favourite personalities.

Bring Soca to MySpace has four main aims:

· The creation of a Soca category in MySpace Music

· The featuring of Soca artist profiles on the site splash page

· The inclusion of editorial relating to Anglo-Caribbean music

· The creation of a MySpace Caribbean regional English-language sub-site.

At present, MySpace considers the Caribbean to fit under the umbrella of Latin America. Therefore Caribbean users often login to into a Spanish-language interface featuring the latest in Reggaeton and Latin Pop. Organizers believe that the end result of the above recommendations will create a win-win situation for the soca music industry, fans and MySpace alike.

“Every other style of Western music is up there,” says campaign organizer and Caribbean entertainment writer Nurse Karen , “We are simply asking MySpace to give soca artists the respect they deserve. Artists already use site, but they have to describe their sounds as Reggae, Tropical, Fusion or Zouk. There is no category that represents them. As a result, Soca artists never have the chance rise to the top of MySpace music charts. Soca is way bigger than that, so the time is now for a change.”

The non-partisan campaign, officially endorsed by (Nurse) Karen (Etc) and Soca Therapy, Canada’s #1 Soca radio program, asks for the grassroots support of all Caribbean media outlets, entertainment professionals and music fans.

Spring into the season with

SOCACIZE™™-An Exhilarating Caribbean Work-out!

Get ready to sweat with Ayanna Lee-Rivears in this high-energy, innovative class that incorporates Afro-Caribbean dance moves to get your heart rate high. Socacize will have you panting after this intense hour as it transports you from the chill of the north to the sunny south.

SOCACIZE™ for kids ***NEW*** 8-12 yrs

Sports can help a child gain self-esteem, coordination, general fitness and help them learn how to work with other kids and adults. But some kids aren't natural athletes and they may tell you - directly or indirectly - that they just don't like sports. What then? Socacize for Kids!

Socacize for Kids is one of the most innovative and exciting dance/fitness program that allows kids to embrace and participate in recreation other than sports.

This fun workout is controlled with the beat of the music - slowing down or speeding up to match the fitness level of the class. Socacize for kids includes games and yoga exercises to increase heart rates, strengthen muscles and increase flexibility. Like an adult fitness class, children should use their aerobic energy system while staying within their training heart rate zones. Kids will receive tips on healthy food and also the functions of their bones and muscles.

Socacize for Kids will encourage children to let loosen up to the energizing melodies and rhythms of Calypso, Soca, Zouk, reggae and on occasion drum music. We add fun equipment/themes to make each session exciting!

With the 2008 Trinidad Carnival just around the corner, Soca lovers are gearing up for a banner year of mas and music.

Presented after each Trinidad Carnival season, Toronto's Return Fete is an annual soca tradition in the city. Brought to us by Dr Jay De Soca Prince of the Kingdom Of Soca family, this initial soca injection sets the pace and tone for our city for the balance of the year. The Return Fete is Toronto's principal introduction to the flavor of a given year's Trinidad carnival season and for Saturday February 16th 2008, Dr Jay is presenting a twist on his annual signature concept. Dr Jay says, "In past years, I have featured individual singers for this event, but for the 2008 edition of Return Fete I am proud to bring one of the most versatile live bands out of the West Indies to my home town of Toronto." Crossing the seas to bring their unique soca sound to Toronto, Kes The Band is the featured performance announcement for the 13th Annual Return Fete.

Expanding the musical representation of Trinidad and Tobago above and beyond soca while always pushing boundaries, Kes The Band defies musical classification. Having demonstrated the versatility of the Trinidadian musical talent pool all over the world, Dr Jay is pleased to bring Kes The Band to Toronto as his featured artistes for the 2008 Return Fete

KES the Band at Soca or Die

Trinidad, Friday October 26th, 2007 - Still riding high from a busy 2007 Caribbean and North American tour, KES the Band has just released their first offering for the TnT Carnival 2K8 season. The mid-paced, groovy style Soca tune, entitled 'Right Dey' is already poised to top the TORONTO-LIME.com charts as it is quickly gaining popularity on the worldwide web .

The track was written and produced by KES the Band in collaboration with Julio Nelson and mastered by Loritz Lidlow. "Right Dey! is simply a feel good song that we felt was needed at this present time. A tune that people can sing and 'chip dong de road' Tuesday afternoon with. As always we just wanted to add our take on Soca to the Carnival; Good Vibes, Good People, Good Times", band leader Hans Dieffenthaller shared.

Throughout all of 2007, KES the Band delighted fans everywhere with a slew of new hits, including 'Lion', '
My Land', 'Our Prayer', 'Caribbean Girl'; all of which peaked at #1 or at least within the top 5 positions on the TORONTO-LIME.com chart. 'Lion' stayed within the top 20 for almost the entire year since it's release in late 2006. The bands music has shown much success throughout recent years, most notably their major hit 'Stay With Me' in 2006, which debuted in the #1 position and held on for an astonishing 10 weeks.

According to Hans, the band is not only preparing great new music, but is also assembling some major surprises for their upcoming shows. "This year, as with every year we are working on a really dynamic and entertaining live shows for Carnival '08. We brought in Flava Flav for Carnival '07. His appearance brought together our 'Time to Love Tour' and this year we have a new concept with some really great surprises."

KES is already penciled in for a jam packed Carnival 2K8 season and promises not to dissappoint fans. "Our main goal has always been to entertain the fans and patrons of any event so that they always feel they got their money's worth and that they leave the party wanting to come see us again. As well this is the year of the FAN. We are working on some great FAN driven projects for 08. People hunger for that mind-blowing party experience and we have the 'Remedy' for those hunger pains." exclaimed Hans.

"Between KES THE BAND and Nadia Batson there are quite a few more tunes to come for the year", Hans added. In the meantime look out for KES the Band to be 'Right Dey' at Trinidad Carnival 2K8!

KES the Band to do series of events down the Islands

KES the Band to do series of events down the Islands

It's official! Kees Dieffenthaller revealed that Kes the Band will be doing a series of promotional events at a remote location down the islands with an entertainment group from Los Angeles.

When asked if this had anything to do with the 'Flavor of Love' series or any connections to friends of his in California like Shia La Beouf or Tony Kanal (from No Doubt fame) he merely laughed and stated, "anything is possible. Whatever happens, one thing's for certain... Toronto Lime will be there!"

Destra Garcia at Molson Amphitheatre

Just IMAGINE, Soca Reggae and Soul at CARIBANA™

Monday August 6th, 2007 - Ontario Place Molson Amphitheatre was the fresh new venue for CARIBANA's official cool down party on Sunday. Fans at the sold out event enjoyed entertainment by headliners Sean Paul, Destra and Ne-Yo; plus performances by reggae artist Steel, Baby Boys dance crew and singer Nikki Toussaint.

After several years of declining attendance, the FMC (Festival Management Committee) opted to move the CARIBANA™ after-party from the Toronto Islands to a more convenient Ontario Place. A commendable move as Molson Amphitheatre was the ideal fit for the great mix of Soca, Reggae and RnB music.
